Having been voted one of the prettiest towns in Italy, it is best known for its castle Castello Malaspina, which dates from the 12th Century. The winding streets and painted houses make for a lovely day out, exploring the town. For self-catering, Bosa’s weekly market (Tuesday) is the best place to find fresh local ingredients.
There are many lovely beaches to choose from. Cane Malu (6 minutes) offers particularly good snorkeling and diving in the pristine sea. Spiaggia di Bosa Marina (4 minutes) is a wide, sandy beach with cafés and bars on the sea front.
Alghero (55 minutes) is a fascinating collection of architecture, from the ancient walls that encircle the city, to the gothic cathedral. A day wandering through its cobbled streets is a rewarding experience, especially if it involves lunch at one of the many, delicious, local restaurants.
