Until the revolution, Solliès-Farlède belonged to the Seigneurie des Solliers (of Solliès-Ville). It gave up the name "Solliès" to mark its independence in 1792. The meaning of the name of La Farlède is very controversial: some say that it comes from the Latin "ferula" which means fennel. Some say that it comes from the Latin "ferula" which means fennel, a plant whose special aroma goes so well with fish. Others say that it comes from the association of the Latin "far", wheat, with the Gascon "leda" which means the moors.
