Located in the middle of an agricultural and natural area, the house offers complete tranquillity amid lavender fields, sunflower fields, vineyards and olive groves. One of the most breathtaking villages in the Golden Triangle ("Triangle d'or" ) of Provence is Saignon. Saignon has the characteristic features of Luberon villages, with its distinctive rock carved by nature so that from afar it looks like an imposing castle. The rock is like a signpost high above the town of Apt, hence perhaps the name Saignon, which comes from the Latin signum, meaning 'sign'. Saignon was a lookout post for danger coming through the valley to Apt and the tower bell was the alarm bell. Because of this important role, Saignon was a previliged village and no less than three castles were built by dire different kings. This is a striking number considering the size of the village. The architecture still shows the wealth of the village from 800 years ago, making it a beautiful village to stroll around through the narrow streets lined with fountains. On the pretty square where the three streets intersect, we find a large old fountain and the Domaine de la Presbytere, a fine hotel and restaurant. You can also climb the imposing rock of the Saignon to get a spectacular view of the northern valley with the white-topped Mont Ventoux as an anchor point, as well as the Montagne de Lure, a glimpse of the Alps and even Avignon on clear days.
